🔸The fire in Holyrood is classified as “Being Held” by the Department of Forestry.
🔸There is minimal fire behavior observed with the fire fully contained with hose lines. Crews continue to work on the fire and residents are asked to proceed with caution on roads and around properties. The Holyrood fire remains at 22 hectares with no growth reported.
🔸Central Avalon Ground Search and Rescue will scan for hot spots this evening.
🔸 Ground crews from the Holyrood Fire Department, other mutual aid fire departments, and the Department of Forestry continue to work and monitor on-site. If you witness any flare-ups, call 911.
🔸The fire at Island Pond on Salmonier Line has been extinguished.
🔸Please be careful at our Main Beach boardwalk, as we have had to remove boards to investigate the careless disposal of pipe ashes and discarded cigarette butts. This section of the boardwalk will require maintenance, and until such time that this maintenance is complete, please be careful in the area.
🔸This is a stern reminder to residents not to discard their cigarettes or pipe tobacco in any area where there are combustible materials. This includes flower beds, wooden boardwalks, roads adjacent to grassy areas, and other such places.
🔸The Town of Holyrood is working with the Water Resources Management Division to have private wells in the evacuated area tested. This testing should begin tomorrow.
🔸There is bottled water for those wishing to avail of this service, which can be picked up at the Hubert A. Keough Municipal Building, 34 Salmonier Line, up to 9:30 p.m. tonight (August 10).
🔸Residents are reminded of the Air Quality Warning due to smoke from ongoing wildfires. Smoke from wildfires will significantly reduce air quality downwind of these fires. 🔸Residents are advised that a province-wide fire ban is in effect until at least September 7, 2025.
