FIRE CHIEF

The Town of Holyrood is seeking a qualified, highly self-motivated individual, experienced, hands-on person for the position of Fire Chief.

The Fire Chief is a key member of the Town’s management team and will:

  • Lead and direct the Fire Department consisting of four full time career Firefighters, and 27 volunteers – 12 of whom are casuals.
  • Be the management person primarily responsible for the regular revision and exercise of the Town’s Emergency Preparedness Plan in consultation with senior management; • Provide overall direction and strategic leadership;
  • Be responsible for leading and managing change and for providing effective strategic, financial, and operational management; and
  • Oversee the policy framework and administration of programming, including active participation in and facilitation of training sessions

The successful candidate should be a:

  • High school graduate
  • NFPA Firefighter Level I & II 1001 certification combined with a minimum of 5 years firefighting experience
  • ICS 100/200
  • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer 1
  • NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor
  • NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector
  • Fire Department Operations, 3 years of which should be at the senior officer level

Consideration may be given to candidates possessing an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

The Fire Chief will have thorough knowledge and experience of modern firefighting and prevention methods and all applicable legislation, codes and standards pertaining to the fire service and will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of emergency preparedness planning. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills and be an excellent communicator to liaise with, train and motivate staff and personnel, particularly volunteer members.
