FIRE BAN IN EFFECT for JURISDICTION OF HFD – June 20, 2024

The Holyrood Fire Dept. wishes to advise all residents that due to the number and severity of wildfires in Labrador and the provincial fire ban that has been put in place across Newfoundland and Labrador, a fire ban is being implemented within the region, which includes the Holyrood Fire Department service areas; the Town of Holyrood, Salmonier Line, Deer Park, and Middle Gull Pond.

This is to reduce the risk of forest fires and to support the efforts of wildfire suppression teams currently actioning active fires.

The fire ban that is currently in effect will be evaluated and updated by Friday, June 28, 2024.

The fire ban includes backyard firepits, chimineas, charcoal BBQs and open fires. Propane firepits and BBQs are permitted.

The Holyrood Fire Department is encouraging all residents to be fire safe when using propane firepits and barbeques, to keep a hose or fire extinguisher handy and follow manufacturer’s requirements regarding clearances from combustible materials.
