🔸As of August 14, the Holyrood fire remains classified as “Under Control” by the Department of Forestry.
🔸We continue to see hotspots occur occasionally, and the fire department is responding appropriately.
🔸We are asking residents to stay away from the fire zone and not to park on the side of the road while crews are active in the area. This is unsafe for both residents and the firefighters.
🔸Residents are reminded of the Province-Wide Off-Road Vehicle Restriction and we are asking all residents who use all-terrain vehicles to please abide by the provincial order to help reduce fire risk and protect our town. This restriction includes trails, side roads, and boardwalks.
🔸We ask residents to continue their water conservation efforts by refraining from unnecessary use. Your actions are having a positive impact.
🔸This is a reminder that we all need to be careful at this time due to the dry weather and lack of moisture. Please ensure you are doing everything possible to protect yourselves and your neighbours. Check your property for any combustibles or fire hazards, and continue to be mindful of actions that ensure safety in the community — a quick check can make a big difference in protecting everyone.
🔸Further details regarding the distribution of $500 in financial assistance to households who have had to evacuate their primary residences by the Canadian Red Cross, will be shared in a more detailed post.
🔸Coping during a crisis: Mental health support for wildfire-affected communities:
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure — you’re not alone. Stress and emotional reactions are normal during disasters like wildfires. You may feel numb, restless, tearful or just “not yourself.” Children can also have trouble with uncertainty. These are all valid responses to a traumatic event.
Please visit NL Health Services for more information on accessing support: https://nlhealthservices.ca/news-centre/wildfire-information/#mha
🔸Residents are advised that a province-wide fire ban is in effect until at least September 7, 2025.
