Welcome to Holyrood’s 2021 Crystal Carnival

Chilly is back for another 10 days of fun filled activities during the annual Holyrood Crystal Carnival between February 19 – 28, 2021. Carnival Events Schedule is coming soon so please stay tuned. Although this year will be a little different, we guarantee there will be something for everyone.

All Holyrood Crystal Carnival 2021 events will be done under the most current protocols and orders from the Public Health Officer of Newfoundland. Some events may become cancelled or changes due to accouchements of new public health orders. Please check back regularly to see if any events or contests have changed. Crystal Carnival 2021 Cancellations 

Given the recent updates provided by the province’s Chief Medical Officer, the Town has made the decision to cancel all IN-PERSON events during the Crystal Carnival. These events are now listed below in red, and labelled as cancelled. As we continue to work through the current schedule of events, various virtual events may be cancelled as well. Please continue to check back to our website for daily updates over the next week.

Weekly Carnival Happenings    

Virtual 5K Chilly Dash
Brought to you by The Running Room
Location: You Choose the Location
Cost: $25

Our 5K Chilly Dash is back but a little different this time! For 2021, our Chilly Dash is virtual. Participants can run or walk a minimum of 5K at a location of their choice. All participants will receive a 5K Chilly Dash Medal and a Virtual 5K Chilly Dash Buff upon Completion. Awards for the top male, top female, and the longest distance posted over the 10 days (Feb 19-28).

All runners must take a screenshot of their fastest 5K result via a tracking app (ex: AllTrails) and email to steve.martin@holyrood.ca. If you would like to be considered for the longest distance over the Carnival please submit all dates you walked/ran during the carnival. Please make sure the date is clear on the screenshot taken.

Snow Sculpture Contest OPENS EARLY: February 12-28
The start of a new tradition, the Holyrood Snow Sculpture Contest! Because we have fresh snow on the ground we’re kicking this one off early- February12-28. We want to see who has the best snow sculpture in the town! Participation is easy: Create your snow sculpture, take a picture and submit it to the town via our Facebook Inbox or email to steve.martin@holyrood.ca. PRIZE – $100.00 Cash! We will create another contest in the event there is no snow!

All Participants will receive a Carnival Toque for their participation.

Carnival Button Winner
We’re teaming up with Holy Cross Elementary for another Crystal Carnival Button Contest. This year’s theme will be a COVID Safe Carnival. Each day of the Carnival, students and staff will have the opportunity to win prizes with their button number. The person with the winning
design will take home a Crystal Carnival Prize-Pack and a Pizza Party for their entire class! Stay tuned to see who the lucky winner will be!

Holyrood Photo Scavenger Hunt
Over the course of the Crystal Carnival we encourage you to get out and see the Holyrood Sites. Form your team of 2 (minimum) to 6 (maximum) people and complete the scavenger hunt list to win a Rec Room Family Prize-Pack valued at $200.

Skating at Boland’s Pond *CANCELLED*
If ice conditions allow, the Holyrood Fire Department will be maintaining the ice at Boland’s Pond this Carnival. Feel free to enjoy a family skate daily between 8:00am and 9:00pm. Benches on site.

Holyrood Ice Fishing Derby POSTPONED due to the lack of ice. 
Love ice-fishing? We have the challenge for you! We’re looking for Holyrood’s biggest fish caught during the Crystal Carnival. Take a
picture of your biggest catch between February19-28 for a chance to win a $100 gift card to Coastal Outdoors! Join our virtual fishing Derby through the FishDonky App that is available on both Google Play and Apple App Store.

Holyrood’s Got Talent

Got Talent? You could win a $100 gift card of your choice and a paid gig at a future Holyrood Event! Given the current pandemic climate we’re kicking this off early!
Who Can Enter?
Everyone is invited to enter Holyrood’s Got Talent! Musicians, Dancers, Artists and anyone with a unique talent are encouraged to enter!
Although the name is Holyrood Got Talent we welcome anyone from the CBC Region.
How to Enter?
Record a video of your talent and send us the video before Wednesday, February 24. All entries will be posted on the Town of Holyrood Facebook Page during the Carnival and the public can vote for their favourite entry (details to follow on the voting).

3- Drop-Box: Drop a jump drive into our drop box located at 34 Salmonier Line. Please ensure this is in an envelope with your name, email and phone number.

Where’s Chilly?
Each day at 4:00pm between February 22-26, a picture of Chilly will be posted to the Town of Holyrood Facebook Page. It is up to you to
find the location. The first to comment with the answer will win a new Crystal Carnival toque. One guess per person. One prize per person.

Carnival Torch and Ice Sculpture at Holy Cross Park
We will be lighting Holy Cross Park for the Carnival! Make sure you take the time to stop by and check out the Carnival Torch and Ice Carving between 5pm-10pm each night. Due to COVID-19 we will not be selling Hot Chocolate but please feel free to bring your own to keep you warm
during your visit.

Stories from the Museum *CANCELLED*
Each night at 8:00pm between Monday, February 22 and Friday, February 26 check out our new feature Stories from the Museum with Holyrood Heritage Inc. Each video will feature a story which will be broadcasted through our Town of Holyrood Facebook Page and Youtube Channel.

DIP INFORMATION
It’s back! The Crystal Dip returns to ensure food security in our town. If you have the courage, it’s time to find your wackiest costume and take the plunge into the cold Holyrood Harbour to support both the Little Free Pantry and our local Food Bank. If you don’t have the courage to take the plunge, please consider a food or monetary donation to our food drive at the Station Diner Parking Lot.

Due to COVID-19 we will announce the total amount raised through Facebook after the food drive portion of our
