Holyrood Crystal Carnival 2023 Friday, February 17 – Sunday, February 26 CARNIVAL SCHEDULE OF EVENTS


Crystal Carnival Updates, Cancellations & Postponements ☃️
Due to extreme cold temperatures this weekend there will be a number of cancellations and postponements to the Crystal Carnival schedule. Please see below:
Saturday, February 25
➡️5K Chilly Dash- This event is postponed to Saturday, March 4 with pre-race check-in starting at 9:00am and the race beginning at 10:00am. To be added to the Chilly Dash waitlist please call 229-7252 ext. 201.
❌ Morning Snowshoe- This event has been cancelled due to extreme temperatures on Saturday.
✅ Carnival Cold Plates- Will go ahead as scheduled. For those who have ordered scold plates, pick up will happen between 12pm-3pm on Saturday. Please bring your own reusable grocery bag for carry-out.
✅Mixed Dart Tournament- Will go ahead as scheduled with registration starting at 9:00am and the tournament starting at 10:00am. Good luck to all competitors.
✅Family Board Game Day- Will go ahead as planned at the Holyrood Public Library starting at 12:00pm.
➡️ Gone to the Dogs- This event has been postponed to Sunday, March 5 1:00pm at the Holyrood Dog Park.
❌Carnival Classic- This event is now cancelled however “Carnival at Holy Cross Park” will be ongoing between 6:00pm-8:00pm all weekend! Stop by to see the ICE THRONE and have a cup of hot chocolate.
✅Valentine’s Dance- This event will be going ahead as scheduled starting at 9:30pm on Saturday. The Royal Canadian Legion also invites members of the public to an afternoon matinee with Don Brenton between 3:00pm-6:00pm.
Sunday, February 26
➡️Community Breakfast- This event has been postponed to Sunday, March 5 from 10:00am-12:00pm to align with the Crystal Dip!
❌Snow Soccer Softball- This event has been cancelled due to extreme temperatures on Sunday.
➡️ The Crystal Dip- Will be postponed to Sunday, March 5 at 10:00am. As this event is in aid of food security in our town, registration will remain open! The dip will be followed by a community breakfast at the Star of the Sea.
We encourage all residents to take in the self-guided activities on-going all weekend! We have lots of fantastic prizes to be won!

CARNIVAL PARK At Holy Cross Park
Starting February 17, take the time to visit Holy Cross Park to check out the Carnival lights. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and view our new 2023 ice sculpture. The park will be  open between 6 and 8pm each night until Sunday, February 26.


Carnival Button Competition
We’re partnering with Holy Cross Elementary for another Crystal Carnival Button Contest. Students and staff will have the opportunity to win prizes with their button number during the Winter Carnival. The winner will be invited to light the torch and officially kick-off the Crystal Carnival celebrations.

Open Now! It’s time to paint the Town with Chilly. We want to see our mascot Chilly on your property. Here’s how to enter: Construct your very own Chilly and send a picture of your creation to One Chilly can be entered per household. Winner will receive a $100 cash prize.

Holyrood Photo Scavenger Hunt
Over the course of the Crystal Carnival, we encourage you to get out and see the Holyrood sites. Form your team of 2 (minimum) to 6 (maximum) people and complete the scavenger hunt list to win a Rec Room Family Prize-Pack valued at $200.

Riddle Me This Competition
5 riddles at 5 different locations around town. Visit each site and answer the riddle for your chance to win!

Skating at Boland’s Pond
If conditions allow, the Holyrood Fire Department will be maintaining the ice at Boland’s Pond this Carnival. Feel free to enjoy a family skate daily between 8:00am and 9:00pm. Benches on site.

Is Boland’s Pond Open? No. We will provide updates through the Town of Holyrood and Holyrood Fire Department’s Facebook Page when conditions allow the pond to be open for skating.

Friday, February 24

Carnival Goes Country
Carnival Dance featuring The Randy Matthews Band

Saturday, February 25

Pre-Race Registration: 9:00 – 9:45am | Race Time: 10:00am

Divisions: 5K Run & 5K Walk
Location: Royal Canadian Legion
Cost: $35.00
All participants will receive a medal, lunch provided by the MGA 50+ club and a Miller Lite. Lots of prizes to be won. 

Crystal Cup Dart Tournament
Location: Star of the Sea
Time: Registration: 9:00am  Tournament: 10:00am
Cost: $10.00 per player
Join the Star of the Sea for the Carnival Mixed Dart Tournament. Teams will consist of 5 players with either 2 men and 3 women or 3 men and 2 women. This tournament is open to the public. For more information and to register please contact Roz at 691-7201.

Morning Snowshoe – This event is now cancelled due to extreme temperatures. 
Led by resident Roger Myette
Location: Centennial Softball Field
Route: Centennial Softball Field to Main
Beach Pond (Total length: 3km)
Time: 9:30am
Cost: Free
Snacks and campfire to follow. In the event we have no snow, Roger will lead a group hike on the same route. No registration required.

Carnival Cold Plates 
Take-Out Only. Orders must be placed by Wednesday, February 22
Location: Station Diner
Cost: $15.00+ HST
Pick-Up Time: 12:00pm-3:00pm

The Carnival cold plate consists of baked ham, roast turkey, roast beef, potato salad, broccoli salad, pasta salad, beet salad, coleslaw, dressing, dinner roll, cranberry sauce and butter.

Family Board Game Day
Location: Holyrood Public Library
Time: 12:00pm-2:00pm
Cost: Free
Join the Holyrood Public Library for an afternoon filled with board games! Open to all ages! No registration required.

Gone to the Dogs – MOVED TO SUNDAY, MARCH 5 at 1:00pm
Location: Holyrood Dog Park (Salmonier Line)
Time: 1:00pm – 2:00pm
Cost: Free
Bring your furry friend for a play-day in the dog park. Free hot chocolate and treats for your dog.

Carnival Classic – This event is now cancelled due to extreme temperatures
Location: Holy Cross Park
Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Cost: Free
We’re under the lights at Holy Cross Park for the Carnival Classic! Come check out this year’s Crystal Carnival Ice Sculpture and take in the live music, hot chocolate, face painting, games, fire pits and a marshmallow/wiener roast.

Valentine’s Dance

Sunday, February 26

In aid of the Holyrood Food Bank and Little Free Pantries

Can you handle the freezing Atlantic Ocean in the midst of winter? If you have the courage, find your wackiest costume and take the plunge into the cold Holyrood Harbour to support food security in our town. Join us at the Star of the Sea immediately after the dip for brunch as we release the total funds raised. All dippers will receive a free breakfast!

Participants can register 2 ways:
Day of Registration: Complete registration form on site. Minimum donation of $20.00

Fundraiser Registration: All those fundraising must submit their registration forms before they start fundraising.

Join us as we celebrate our Crystal Dippers with a classic Star of the Sea Brunch and unveil the amount raised towards food security in Holyrood!

Join our CBC United Soccer Crew as we form a fun pick-up game of Snow Soccer Baseball. All ages welcome!
