We’re Hiring- Career Firefighter Position

January 21, 2022

Good news! We’re expanding our team of career firefighters.  If you would like to become part of our exciting career firefighting team, email an application that includes your resume, a brief cover letter, and two (2) professional references (to the email address below).

Career firefighters work Monday to Friday daytime only from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and all career firefighters must be (or be willing to become) part of our volunteer firefighting team. This is a tremendous opportunity – not only to work as a career firefighter, but to share information, knowledge, and experience with our firefighting volunteers as part of our weekly training sessions.  Other details about the position (including the salary/benefits and a current job description) can be attained by using the contact information provided below.

Applicants must have NFPA 472/1072 certification as well as NFPA 1001 Level 1 & 2 completed. Career fire fighters must have successfully completed Advanced First Aid for Firefighters (or equivalent) and must pass a medical examination for fire fighters. A Class 5 driver’s license is required with a Class 9 air brake endorsement.  All career firefighters must produce (and maintain) a Certificate of Conduct from the RNC or RCMP. A minimum of 3 years experience as a firefighter (either career firefighter or volunteer firefighter) and general knowledge of being a career firefighter are required.  The most suitable combination of training & experience will be chosen.

Additional Qualifications and Experience

Additional fire fighting training and/or NFPA certification are definite assets, but are not essential. The successful applicant must participate fully in training provided for fire fighters of the HFD, must be able to carry out all aspects of the fire fighter’s job, and must be able to work alone or work as part of a fire fighting team.

Application Process

Applications must be received electronically only (by email) by 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 with a subject line “Firefighter Application”. Please ensure a cover letter, recent resume, and 2 professional references are included. Applications (and inquiries) must be forwarded to JW Consulting Associates at cet@nl.rogers.com.  All applicants will receive notification to confirm receipt of their application within 24 hours. No inquiries at the Town Hall please.
