Fire Chief (Replacement Position 3-6 months)

The Town of Holyrood is requesting applications from interested individuals to fill the position of Fire Chief for its volunteer fire department. This is a replacement position only – for a period of between 3-6 months. Applicants will be “guaranteed” a period of 3 months replacement – and the replacement period may be longer, depending upon the circumstances. Applicants must submit a cover letter and resume highlighting their involvement and knowledge of firefighting, their specific training, certification, and qualifications for the position of Fire Chief. Duties will commence as soon after interviews as possible.

Preference will be given to individuals who have demonstrated progressive leadership skills and have a strong commitment to fire fighting, and who can help recruit and retain a cohesive team of fire fighters through support, mentorship, training, vision, and dedication to the Holyrood volunteer fire department. Emphasis will be on teambuilding and collaboration, and the Fire Chief (replacement) must be prepared to demonstrate how he/she will support the continued growth, expansion, and development of the town’s volunteer fire & emergency services. The salary/stipend is $63,376 annually.

Responsibilities:

Apart from training, recruitment, and responding to fire and emergency calls for service, the Fire Chief must primarily be available during the workday/work week to work with the town’s career fire fighters and to maintain the conditions of the current fire fighting agreement with NALCOR. Duties of the Fire Chief include responsibilities for the coordination of fire suppression, recruitment, training, inspections, oversight of fleet and equipment, budget preparation and oversight, and liaison with the CAO and the Town Council of the Town of Holyrood.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant must have a minimum of 5 years leadership experience in a recognized fire department, must be at least 25 years of age, must have completed training in NFPA 1001 (level 1 & 2), must have standard first aid certification, must be a good leader and command respect of peers, must have demonstrated good judgement and decision-making in emergency situations, and must be in generally good health and free of medical disabilities. The successful candidate must also be able to produce (and maintain) a Certificate of Conduct and Driver’s Abstract.
